Are Race Favourites Future Stars?

Race Favourites ahead of the 2021 Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes..........

Thursday September 2 sees Group 3 action at Salisbury. The Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes is a race for two-year-old fillies and run over six furlongs.

The prize money is £25,520 for the winning entrant and the race is due off at 2.35pm. The forecast ground for this race is good to firm which will suit plenty of the scheduled runners.

Richard Hannon Jr has trained the winner of this race three times in the last four years. He runs System this year, but a win doesn’t look likely. Hannon was successful last season with Happy Romance who recently won a Group 3 race at Newbury.

Happy Romance was the 11/4 favourite to win and beat Alcohol Free who has gone on to win two Group 1 and one Group 3 races. Could more future star fillies be on show on Thursday? Let’s look at the top contenders.

Happy Romance wins the bet365 Hackwood Stakes

Delmona is trained by Tom Dascombe and has a Racing Post Rating of 115. The filly won on debut and in six races this year has only been out of the top three on one occasion.

August 7 saw the filly travel over to Deauville for a Listed race and lost by a neck to odds-on favourite Twilight Gleaming but that was over five furlongs and on very soft ground.

Since then, Delmona has finished third behind Tardis at Newbury. The filly hung left-handed in that race. This is her third race over six furlongs and definitely gets the distance according to racing experts.

Perfect News is also a filly going places. This daughter of Frankel, trained by William Haggas, started her 2yo career at Yarmouth on 4th Aug 2021 contesting the class 5 Diomed EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes in which she was a comfortable runners-up.

She then ran out a convincing winner of a class 5 Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Carlisle on 18 August after encountering some trouble in running.

Tom Marquand takes the ride in the Salisbury race and she should be quite capable of improving again and fighting out the finish.

Race Favourites include Hat-trick seeking Tardis

Tardis is one for Dr Who fans to bet on for sure. This filly is trained by Michael Bell and is hoping to complete a hat-trick of wins.

Tardis got off the mark at the third time of asking, winning at Bath in July. A month later, another win came at Newbury, this time winning a Class race with Delmona back in third.

That was won over five furlongs, but Tardis was running on well, so should be better at six furlongs, perhaps she’s just what the Doctor ordered.

Another to consider is Intelligentsia, trained by Richard Hughes. This daughter of Exceed And Excel, ran out a narrow winner of her maiden race at Newbury in July.

This was a class 4 6f maiden race for fillies, in which she made all, frustrating the challenge of one of Frankel’s offspring, Majestic Glory, in the final 110 yards.

The runner up franked the form by winning her next 2 races, the last of which was a Group 3 7f Stakes race for fillies at Newmarket.
