Plumpton Racecourse: Where racing legends are made

Principal Plumpton Racecourse Facts, Figures and Top Trends.

National Hunt RacingNational Hunt Racing

Plumpton Racecourse, nestled in the heart of the Sussex countryside, is a popular National Hunt (jumps) racing venue that hosts fixtures throughout the winter season.

The course hosts 16 race meetings a year between September and May, and with a course just over a mile round (one of the smallest in the country) there are outstanding views over the whole course. You get the sense that you can almost touch the horses as they career past the winning post on each circuit.

Plumpton Racecourse

Plumpton is a small village in East Sussex, England, with a rich history dating back to the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as "Pluntune". The name is believed to derive from Old English, meaning "settlement by a spring or stream".

The racecourse itself has a history spanning over 140 years. Plumpton Racecourse was founded in 1884 by a group of local sportsmen led by John Gully Hall.

Initially, the course hosted both flat and jump racing, but it soon became clear that the nature of the track was better suited to National Hunt racing as it is undulating,  left handed and sharp.
