Fergal O'Brien is using 5 different jockeys today at Taunton. What would be the reason for this?

Answer: While it is unusual to use 5 jockeys at one meeting this could be due to a number of reasons.

In the first race at 2.50 Fergal O'Brien has two entries; Intrepide Sud and Ryans Rocket ridden by
Jonathan Burke and Paddy Brennan; the latter is the regular rider of Ryan's Rocket so the trainer may be keen to maintain that.

In the 3.20 Fortune Forever is ridden by the amateur jockey Mr Tom Broughton who can claim 5lbs to increase the chance of a win, as the horse is running off top weight.

The 3.50 has No No Maestro ridden by Jack Hogan a Claiming Professional who can claim 3lbs which will also enhance his chances

The 4.50 has Wolf Prince ridden by Connor Brace who is the horse's regular rider.

So it can be seen there are valid reasons for each jockey to represent the yard and the trainer may wish to give his claiming jockeys the opportunity to ride.
