Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter July 28, 2024 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter The calm before the storm and still a busy week – Harriet aka Rogers Dream did very well to be 5th at Redcar despite her 100/1 tag. She will get her handicap mark on Tuesday and we should see some results when she is in her grade. Backing the last of our young horses – 'Freddie' age 3, out of our winning mare Bahrikate by Frontiersman. Jamie has broken most of the youngsters this summer assisted by Amanda here. Freddie will get ridden away this week but then will continue in training as he is a very mature 3 year old. This season we should see the filly:- Hope & Promise and 'Freddie' starting their careers as the first from the Girsonfield 'stud division'. Saturday we went to Chester with Infinite Honour who did not disgrace himself with a 4th on a quirky track against older horses..he will improve from that and we should come down in the handicap. And so that is the summer break finished for most of our horses – they come in tomorrow for a very good stage of the year where they are in full training but turned out for the rest of the day – best of both worlds health wise. The hay was cut and baled on Friday giving us a good forage for the winter and a good field for the horses to graze overnight. Today the rest of the 3 fields were cut and hopefully a good week to get it baled and wrapped. Redmills test our haylage every year to check its quality, hygiene and the content percentage of protein, water etc. This is so we know how much hard feed we need to give each horse with the quality of the forage – which we feed ad lib to emulate the horses grazing culture. Horse in – yard disinfected and roofs fixed – new areas created to keep the yard tidy – bring on the next season! So this week 2nd August Apache Angel tries 7 furlongs at Musselburgh – down to his last chances for the Race4fun Group. 2nd Rose arrives from Ireland to help create our Open Day..... 4th – 2 pm – Parade of horses – Auction and Raffle for Charities – Tea! And then the season begins. Susan email:girsonfield@outlook.com Tel: 7713651215 Visit our website for the latest news and Daily Tips regards Chris |
