Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter October 27, 2025 |
| Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter Ivans Legacy blotted his copy book when he decided the stable yard was a better option than the racecourse at Sedgefield! Dumped poor Conor on the floor but was recaptured and ran a fizzy race till he got in the front and then he settled nicely. 4th of the 4 finishers but not far from 3rd – be better next time… Champ Royal came back after an eight month break due to injury and he looked every inch the old Champ – he had a good blow and maybe just needed the run. The rest of the week we have been schooling horses ready for their various Chase/ Hurdle debuts. Rebeccas jumping lane is still not finished but it will be good if we can put some final polish on the horses by showing them another set of jumps. We had Padriag Kelly, head of the Edinburgh vet school here, overground scoping some horses. This is where they video the airway and see what is happening. Bit of a clanger when I greeted the two students with him as Hi Girls and they turned around and 1 was definitely a boy with very long blond hair Oppsy! Theatre Light goes for a small op on Monday which will stop her Soft Palette billowing up and covering her air way – hence why she stopped dead around Hexham last time – just 3 weeks off and then she will be back. Elemore Hall school pupils came for a visit and were very interested in the horses ( and the Pigs ) age between 7 – 16 there were 12 children with their teachers and Bekah gave them some tuition on the equiciser then I showed them all Les Legacy winning a race and they all clapped and cheered – so nice – all my staff were great with the kids. Jamie got the best question – ‘how many races have you lost?’ ‘ more than we have won’ said Jamie! Joker is gearing up for his Hurdling debut and Jamie schooled him yesterday in the arena – next step over the proper hurdles in the field. We have also reinstated our jumping lane in another field – tyres and different obstacles to teach them to jump. Lots of races are coming up with the ground good for some and not for others – Pinot stays at home today as the rain did not come to Aintree – Dotties Promise does go and we will see how she goes against some of the best fillies in the country. Newcastle we have a few entries but some want soft and some want good so they will not all run. Dates 26th October Dotties Promise at Aintree 30th October Newcastle - Fairly Fulling Kilmore Rock and Crimson Road for good ground while Whispering Dancer and Ratemenow will want some ease in the ground.
