Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter July 27, 2025 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter One of our supporters, Chris Wigg, is publishing 'a year in the life of Girsonfield' from my Newsletter - later I will send you information about how this all came about....... We were certainly busy at the beginning of the week with Cartmel and the sales at Goffs in Doncaster. I love going to Cartmel ( apart from the windy roads on the last part of the journey - Bekah was breathing in a lot!) Not sure about the Owner ( at the moment ) comment as I was coming out of Cartmel Priory - 'had I gone into the Priory to get my sins forgiven? and, if so, I must have been in a while' Really! Back to the races and once again O Faolains Glory, our Gloria, did her best carrying almost top weight on that bit further - the young jockey reported if it had been 2.4 she would have maybe been better than 4th. The choices were 2.1 or 2.6, no happy medium. never the less more prizes for the Girsonfield Racing Club which was the first racing club set up when we started training. Bekah also won the Best Turned Out Award- sorry Les blame Lee! At the sales, we bought Red Dart, age 5 by Dartmouth. He was 2nd in 2 point to Point Bumpers in the Spring and he was actually bred 15 miles from here. Bought by Samantha, he will replace Blame Rose who has retired, for the Nelson Partnership. They are waiting for their young horse to mature. Josh also bought himself a new project - a huge filly, age 3 by Mastercraftsman. She is fully GBBonus registered so we will watch with interest for the 5k he paid. Dotties Promise and Late Night Drama had a short break and are now in full training as they head for races at Hexham on the 27th August. Crimson Road - following his lack lustre Flat races - is now learning to jump to change the plan and take him over hurdles. Starting with trotting over a pole on the ground and building up slowly. The out take was interesting! All in all he was an absolute natural and towed Bekah into the jump. The grass in our four hay fields has all been cut now for the haylage, so we will get back to the schooling field next week when he will jump the proper hurdles. Jamie has never worked so hard between turning grass, worming lambs, building a shed and riding the odd horse! Josh has been bolting down rubber mats and generally cleaning up, Bekah and Amanda riding and cleaning/ disinfecting stables while Abi has her summer holiday. Fighting against time for the horses coming in next week yikes! National Racehorse Week is building strength and we already have over 125 on the list of people signed up on the NRW site.
