Newsletter - Susan Corbetts Newsletter April 27, 2025 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter Well the expression unlucky in running certainly struck home this week – first run for Crimson Road ( Puddles ) at Redcar with Callum Rodriguez riding and the jockey waved his whip in our horses face then came across us so game over. Stewards enquired but found it to be accidental. So on to the next race for him with more luck required! Next we were off to Perth with Theatre Light and Wee Alki – Theatre Light was disappointing – thinking too quick after her last race – all things we find out about in a few races. She came home sound and so races again in minimum 3 weeks. Wee Alki – no nerves here with him in an Amateur Race and our brand new Yard Amateur Bekah Duffy riding ( Joshs Sister, who learnt to ride here 4 years ago ). Nathan has taken her under his wing and reckons she could be the next Briony Frost! She was 3rd and no one would have known ir was her first run as a jockey over hurdles. We will nuture her and hopefully she may become Yard Conditional jockey ( 10lb claim ) next season – all being well. Wee Alki was 3rd and ran on well at the end of the race. Next day was our new horse Late Night Drama – not looking like a superstar but its early days and we need to find her comfort zone.... And so the season ended for the jumps yesterday and we have 12 winners ( best ever 13 ) :- Kilmore Rock x 3 Freddie Steady Go – now sold to stay on the yard – thanks guys!. Les Legacy Sunset Hill Samwise Beyond the Verge Jimlis Island x 2 Atomic Angel Wotyoudunnow Buddy Totalling £133.772 12 wins and 33 places from 100 runs a strike rate of 12% wins and 45% prizes. If you consider last years big guns Champ. Pinot and Velasco have had issues from ground to injury niggles – the rest have stepped up to the mark. If they all put their best foot forward this season......and it rains! Nathan has had his 3rd best season with 22 wins, 63 places from 196 runs around 44% strike rate and winning £210,000. The season ahead – not many roughed of in the field, as most have not even started as yet so we will proceed through the summer and the horses will get a break as and when they need one rather than all going in the field tomorrow! Lambing has just about finished with Josh and Jamie in charge and doing many extra hours. Amanda is due to return to work next week after her accident in November. So full team will be in place Jamie, Josh, Amanda, Bekah and Abi, our student. We still have part time staff for days racing – for example Ross who left us to work at Frankland Prison and now returns to 'clear his head'. Makes race riding look less dangerous! The yearlings are turning from ducklings to swans – Clyde due to be gelded soon. You will see the long stick in the pic with a 'hand' on the end of it? This teaches the yearlings to have their back legs touched with out injury to the staff. I am sure I have said this but they are the worst behaved bunch we have produced! So should be good racehorses with attitude! Schooling has commenced so we know who will proceed to a career over fences. I will start planning now which Go North finals we may qualify for next year – and now.... Dates 23rd August – National Racehorse Week Open Day - Provisional 6th September – Owners Open Day - Provisional 3rd Dec Christmas Dinner at Le Petit Chateau change of venue and they will sort out rooms at a special price – we will get a code..... Races 2nd May Clear Angel Newcastle – no rain so he goes AW. 3rd May Hexham Sunset Hill – Prov, Blame Rose, 7 May Kelso Knokeranna Rose, Champ ( Prov ), Just Oot, Lunar Contact, Kilmore Rock, See a Stride 10 May Haydock – Freddie 10 May Hexham TBC Many thanks to you all for supporting the yard! Kind Regards Susan email:girsonfield@outlook.com Tel: 7713651215 https://girsonfield.co.uk/
