Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter (50/1 winner):

We often say horses are not machines and have their off days, well we think Late Night Drama certainly had an off day in her first run for us - we knew she had improved from that very moderate run at Perth and thought she would be better - but to turn over the 2/11 favourite shocked her owner, Samantha and all of us all at Hexham on Tuesday romping home at 50/1!

Theatre Light was the one I hoped would be first 4 - she was 5th and hated the ground. Henry reported she just did not let herself down on the ground so needs it soft.

Late Night Drama's win was followed up by See a Stride - who has been knocking at the door. Both Mares turned over the Southern raiders and won by 6 lengths and a length respectively. Nathan rode both mares totally differently with Late Night Drama being prominent and Stride having some cover - the real benefit of having Nathan as our yard jockey. So a great night for the SC racing Club and Samantha.

Back down to earth with a bump: Crimson Road ran well at Ayr until the last two furlongs and just stopped, so he is off to get a wind op at Ben Brains. He will be assessed there and be back within the day. I had him scoped at the racecourse, and there was no sign of anything else, so it must be his Soft Palette, which can billow up and block his airway.

Then Josh and I went off to the sales where we fancied a couple of the retiring James Ewarts horses but just not enough money in the kitty. It seems when we started we had 2k when we needed 5k, 10 k when we needed 15k and so on! We don't do so badly with our bargain horses tho......

You can see the progress that fellow Trainer Gary Rutherford is making with one of our young fillies, being long reined across the Scottish borders.

We have no time to do her ourselves as Jamie has a roof to put on the Cream barn and Josh is taking some well-earned holidays, while the girls have their hands full with the rest.

It looks like most of our horses will stay in work until July especially with this lovely rain due this week. Sunset Hill is looking very round as she has been off for 3 weeks already.

The two brood mares came home yesterday from Joe Whites farm where they have been walked in ( when in season ) to Overbury Stud to visit Frontiersman. The mares have returned a credit to Joe and Georgina with AA scanned in foal and Bahrikate - we hope in foal - we find out in 15 days time.

That would be a full bro or sister to Freddie - see the horse that beat him at Haydock, carrying 7lb less, was sold at the sales this week for 100K. I am very happy that my Owners got together and we still have Freddie on the yard. Likewise, we welcome another new group - 'Footie Mad' ( AKA Sandy, Mike, John and Neil ) to the yard having bought Just Oot from Josh.

Three runners today at Kelso - best of luck to the Naughty but Nice syndicate, Tweed Valley Racing and the Nelson Racing Club - fingers crossed they do well and come home safe and sound. Clear Angel goes to Ripon on Thursday - hoping for the cut in the ground he needs. No newsletter next week as I am away for a week in Menorca......

Dates

25th May Wee Alki and Les's Legacy in the same race ( i really hate to do this but a perfect race for both - rather like the needle match coming up at Hexham on the 7th June with Kilmore and Pinot!. Blame Rose in the Mares handicap hurdle.
