Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter November 23, 2025 |
| Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter Not such a good week with the weather meaning Hexham was abandoned due to a snow covered track – a disappointment as all of our runners had a good chance that day ( I thought). Then the weather really turned the screws and we were iced in, meaning we could only use the arena to trot in. It's a hard shift for the staff – 40 minutes trotting in sub zero conditions, hence we are back a week and our early week runners do not run at Southwell, Wetherby or Market Rasen. Pointless running if not fully fit as that is when accidents happen with tired horses. Part of the yard ethos is that I try and give all of the full time staff Sundays off as its one of the reasons cited for staff leaving racing – no time out. However that is down the shoot at the moment, as the staff are in today, riding out next weekends runners to give them half a chance of making their races at Muss, Newcastle and Carlisle. The 3 year old out of Ebony Rose was brought in from the field two weeks ago – she is by Schiaparelli and was partly broken last year. She became a little difficult and so we turned her away and she is now as good as gold – backed and ridden away. She just needed that time to mature a little more in her brain rather than her body. She will be ready to race – when we get the weight off her- she is a good doer and thrives on not very much! The other breaker 'Chester; is a year older and he is now going up the gallops ( when we are able ) Best of luck to Bekah riding Lunar Contact in his first Point to Point at Hexham on the 29th Nov while Abi joins 'Jockey Start' and has her first ride of the season at Hexham as well. We have choices of races coming up for Pinot and Sunny at the weekend at Newcastle and Carlisle – they have re organised the fences at Newcastle and the jockeys are reporting they are very welcoming now. Watch for more information – I am visiting a stud in Wales tomorrow where they have very good pedigree fillies and geldings for sale and to lease – all age 3 broken and ridden away. Dates Friday 28th O Faolains Glory – Musselb if she is ready Saturday 29th Maybe Ivans Legacy, Pinot Rouge and Sunset Hill Sunday 30th Pinot Rouge, Sunset Hill, Whispering Dancer and Ratemenow Friday 5th Dec The Christmas party is the final charity earner of the year so even if you are not able to come along a raffle prize would be good – I am fairly sure this will be our biggest year for giving to charity – hence why we are also selling the calendars and Christmas cards – these will be available at the Xmas Party....
