Right, let's talk strategy.

If you've been sat there staring at our race cards wondering what on earth to *do* with all those numbers, this one's for you. Over time we've dug through the data looking for patterns — the kind of angles that actually give you a shortlist instead of a headache — and we've bundled them up into a set of strategies anyone can use.

A quick word before we dive in: none of these are magic formulas. Paper trade first, see how a strategy sits with you, tweak it if you need to. Betting's a marathon, not a sprint, and the best strategy is the one you actually understand and trust.

Right, onto the good stuff.

## The Classics

**Four Tops** is about as simple as it gets — just the four horses with the highest FRN (our Form Ratings Number, the "special sauce" as we like to call it) across the whole day's cards. No overthinking, just top-rated horses, plain and simple.

**Fast Four** does the same job but for speed — the four quickest horses of the day by SPD rating. Fair warning though: SPD is built on past performance, so it won't always account for today's ground, weather or field. Worth bearing in mind.

**Four Last Run** hunts down the horses who impressed most recently, ranking by LR (our last-run rating) and taking the top four across all cards.

**Ideally Suited** flips the focus to HRS — our measure of how well-suited a horse looks for its race today. Top four HRS scores, and you've got horses sitting pretty for their conditions.

## Digging a Bit Deeper

**Box Tickers** takes Four Tops and tightens the net — these are horses in the top 4 for FRN *and* leading the way on LR, SPD and HRS too. If a horse ticks all those boxes, it's clearly doing something right.

**Most Expected** is for when you want a bit more confidence behind the numbers. It looks for horses topping FRN, LR, HRS and SPD, where the FRN is at least 25 points clear of the next best, and the forecast odds are shorter than 3/1. These are the horses the data really believes in.

**Better & Better** and **Progressives** are both about improving form. Progressives looks for horses whose last three runs show a clear upward curve (LR better than 2LR, better than 3LR). Better & Better is a tighter version — horses with the best LR who've also improved on their 2LR or 3LR, using only races with a complete ratings set, and ruling out any race where more than one horse qualifies.

## Value Plays

**Well Placed** and **One Two… Place** are both about finding value in tight races — where the top two horses by FRN are separated by less than 25 points. The difference is in the odds: Well Placed wants the second horse at 4/1 or bigger (for place value, not each-way), while One Two… Place wants the *top* horse sitting between evens and 4/1 — a bit shorter, a bit more strike rate.

**False Favourites** flips things on its head — this one's a laying strategy. If the market's clear leader has at least three horses on the card with a better HRS rating, that favourite might be overbought. Worth keeping an eye on whether it's drifting in the market too, as that can be a tell.

## The Wildcards

**Dark Horses** are exactly what they sound like — first-time runners with no data behind them. Zeros across the board. Higher risk, potentially higher reward, but genuinely hard to call.

**All-Weather Allstars** narrows things right down to All Weather handicaps, picking out the top SPD horse. Handicap races mean there's proper form to go on, and all-weather takes ground and conditions largely out of the equation. One thing we've noticed — it seems to work best May through September, with April being a bit of a mixed bag. Definitely one to watch rather than bet blind on.
