Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter April 19, 2026 |
| Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter Lunar Contact started his race jumping well and Bekah had him in a great position just behind the leaders. Then he twisted over his fence and Bekah bit the dust! Such a shame when he was going so well. Then we went off to Newcastle to practice with Samantha's lady and Ebchester. Both travelled well and had a tour of the parade ring before going for a gallop with some of Rebecca Menzies handicappers ie more experienced horses. It certainly pays dividends to share Nathan as we help each other out when we can. Both horses did well – SL is a little weak and may get another gallop then a break to strengthen up. YY Spirit had her first outing for Ann and Allan Grant. She hated the soft at Ripon and was not taken by the undulating track so her next outing will probably be at Newcastle. The run will have brought on her fitness, so we look forward to the next run. Great to get the horses out a lot more when the sun shines. We then took Pinot Rouge and Kilmore Rock to the local cross-country course, where they had fun! Talk about a change of scenery but it is a beautiful place with lots of jumps and water shutes! It certainly worked with Pinot, who ran a blinder at Ayr in an Open Handicap ( highest rated 137 ) We came 4th, but rumour has it the 2nd horse went over the allocated smacks and will be disqualified on Tuesday, and we will become 3rd! Young Holly had her looking amazing ( even had sparkles ! ) and won her second BTO in 3 trips to the races. She is just 17 and will be our new apprentice for next season. Sadly, she pulled her phone out of her pocket – and the money.... Pity her when she comes to work, as the team will not be impressed! I intend to ask the racecourse for a certificate for her to mark the occasion. So well done to Stuart and Steve for keeping the faith in Pinot! The end of the season is nigh, and although not all horses will be turned out, some are already on the hill – we have had a lot of young horses this season, and I am sure we will reap the benefits in the next 12 months. At the May sale, I hope to find a handicapper for a small syndicate, so please let me know if anyone is interested! I am also going to Newmarket for the Horses in Training sake to look for a Flat horse or two...... Winner of the caption comp from last week. ' George is saying Can someone get him to wind his neck in'' ( Alki was beaten by a neck lol ). The winner will get a prize – well done Viv Dates 20 April Kilmore Rock at Kelso 22th Ebselysees in the Amateur race at Perth ridden by Bekah 24th Valette and maybe Knockeranna Rose Perth but many entries.. 26th Freddie Steady Go Wetherby 1 mile on his Flat debut.
