Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter November 16, 2025 |
| Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter ‘Not the weekend we anticipated’ said Jamie and not a truer sentence! Expecting to take Freddie to Cheltenham today but the ground went heavy and, as Nathen is fairly sure he needs good ground, we pulled out. This decision was quickly followed by Mr Ramoon, who is difficult but had settled down nicely at home, rearing up and flipping over backwards causing him to be withdrawn – Nathan was fine but it was not a good moment – back to the drawing board with him. Thank goodness that Fairly Fulling, bought from my neighbour, decided to put his best foot forward and come 2nd at Sedgefield ridden by Nathan. It was a great ride keeping him wide on the better ground and he responded well to being ridden ‘ cold’ ( from the back ) so great hopes for next time for Gary, Chris and the Goodfellow Partnership. The week, as you can see from the pics, was dark and very wet so we concentrated on getting our young horses schooled ready for their hurdles debut. If you look at the pics of Ivans Legacy we do:- Trotting over poles and jumping a small cross pole in the Arena Progress to a bigger jump each side of the arena Go to the schooling field where we have a jumping lane of tyres and poles – to this we have added a proper hurdle at the end of the line. Back to the arena for a proper hurdle Down to the main schooling field to jump the birch and padded hurdles there. Some horses like ILegacy take to it very well while others like Joker need more confidence – we also practice the older horses in the arena to teach them balance. We had Brian Harding here this week – our BHA Jockey Coach who came to assess Bekah, Abi and Laurs before they ride in Point to Points at the end of this month – Hexham 29th Nov. all being well. He is also Conor Rabbitts coach so he killed a few birds with one stone! Our new horse arrived last week from Ireland ‘Kaikoura’ – hopefully one we can improve and to start he was silly on the gallops but he had very sharp teeth that caused ulcers in his mouth so that is sorted now and he had a worm burden so our ‘MOT’ by the vet when horses arrive on the yard again paid dividends. Our calendars ( 10.00 ) and Christmas cards (£7.50) are now ready and can be ordered from Mike Darrah – cestrialad@aol.com His aim is to bring the yard into this century as well as raising funds for the Injured Jockeys fund! Jacket order also going in tomorrow if anyone has not ordered as yet, hats and caps have arrived! Christmas – anyone who has not ordered their Christmas meal please send today to Garysatchwell@gmail.com and payment to S. Corbett Girsonfield Stud 30-94-19 00854195 Thanks!
