Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter April 14, 2025 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter A great start to the week with the long awaited debut of Theatre Light at Carlisle where she was 2nd and not far away at all, ridden by Nathan. Next up was Wee Alki who I hoped would be in the first 3 but had to settle for 4th after he was hampered. Talking of hampered Beyond the Verge was the meat in an Irish sandwich with Patrick Mullins not covering himself in glory and in the stewards room – it was a hot bumper and I doubt we would have won and we were still 7th – he goes hurdling now at the start of May. Pinot was also unlucky – down on her nose in the Hurdle and then lost her momentum – bad season with her as no soft ground which is what she needs. Atomic Angel and Bahrikate set off to stud to be put in foal to Frontiersman – I would like a full brother or sister for Freddie! Tattersalls have invited us to take Freddie to the ‘Select sale’ after racing on Thursday. He will go with a high reserve as I would rather bring him home and sell him to another ‘select group’ on the yard. Also going to Cheltenham this week is Sunset Hill – once again the ground is not perfect for her but I think she has the ability to do well in that company and at the stiff Cheltenham course. After the lamb clearance from the jump ( see below ) ….. schooling went well this week with Sunset Hill looking every inch the chaser for next season as did new girl Late Night Drama ( Princess ). Lunar Contact has his first run at Hexham, in a Hunter Chase, ridden by our newly qualified Amateur Jockey Bekah Duffy ( Joshs sister ). Sadly Caitlin left this week as we cant afford to keep the staff at current levels and Amanda is back soon after her accident. Amanda has ridden Danny the pony and seems very confident she wants to be back in the saddle. Young Jockeys Ben Smith and Jack Power continue to come in and ride out as well as Nathan, of course…. This next week looks very exciting starting with:- Hexham Just Oot ( Travis ) – ran well in his first Hurdle to be 3rd – more expected tomorrow Les’s Legacy ( Charlie )went up 6lbs after his recent win, so we have young Ben claiming 7lb Lunar Contact – first run for the yard and for Bekah… Knockeranna Rose ( Joker ) – big baby and first time out – if he behaves he will have a chance – by Cloudings and out of Toarmandowithlove – a winner for us in our early days. Owned by my Irish Friend Rose and leased by the Ladies that Race syndicate – good luck all. Cheltenham Thursday 17th April Sunset Hill followed by the select sale at 5.30 for Freddie. Carlisle Saturday 19th See a Stride and Kilmore Rock Redcar Monday 21st Crimson Road drops back to a mile. Plenty of water under the bridge before the next newsletter!
