Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter

After a relaxing week away in the sun, thunder and rain lol – it had been all go back at Girsonfield. First up was Mr Ramoon, a problem horse that Bekah and Jamie have worked together to get him to comply with some of the rules of being a racehorse! Samantha has had endless patience with this horse and he has been a trial.

However that all changed at Kelso as he started outsider of three Novice horses he at 22/1, fav at 1 - 4 and the other at 3/1! He jumped and galloped and made a very good account of himself coming second. He will get his handicap mark on Tuesday.

Next we had three at Market Rasen – two outsiders in Blue Du Neuf, for his new syndicate, and Ebselysees. Blue was very good – just a mistake at the second caught him out – he also sustained an injury which we hope will soon resolve. He did so well to battle back for 3rd place, enjoyed himself and jumped very well for his first ever chase.

Ebselysees made a good account of herself again battling back for 4th and putting on a great hurdling display. Next was Ratemenow against a largely unexposed field and he just bumped into a well handicapped horse to be beaten by only 2 L and it was 20 lengths back to the rest. He will improve as he last raced back in March and needs softer ground.

Freddie was the last of the week – he has issues with being a 'teenager' and wanting to go faster than is good for him. However we changed his bit to give the Jockeys more control, put a red hood on, in the paddock, and we got a controlled horse and Harry Russell – who has helped in Freddies worse moments. Harry was slowly away but decided to just sit and not madly push Freddie to the front. When he got going he came like a train and just missed 2nd prize by a neck! So 3rd in a big race at York ended the week rather well. A 2nd x 3, 3rd and a 4th – a great start when it was their first runs from a break. The season looks exciting!

Meanwhile we are in the winter regime with horses getting out on a Sunday where possible – the youngsters still out with feed – we will know its really winter when they come into their stables! New staff settled in and Brian Harding comes this week to do some coaching of the staff schooling horses.
