Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter January 11, 2026 |
| Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter A really cold week where luckily it only rained the last two days, so the gallop was not frozen during the week and we could use them. The last two days it rained and the gallop froze, but a mini break never does the horses any harm, and all racing was off that we were aiming for. We did make it to Ayr with the big boy Dancer and he started to show the ability we have been looking for. On Friday the staff could not get cars up the lane for the black ice and so they decided to park in the village layby. Sadly Bekahs car was ‘unresponsive’ as if gently slide into Jamies car ( she is still employed and Jamies car was undamaged ) ! Then they had a team building exercise trying to walk up the lane. Bekah and Josh have a brother Lewis whom some may remember – he is back ( again, again ) and is our new yardman and will also lunge and long rein the youngsters when the weather improves. Lewis has worked in Australia, Newmarket, Ireland and many, many other places. He will also come racing with me as it saves the staff being a rider short as we have 6 extra horses now in full training from Monday, as well as the usual suspects so a total of 28 :- 3 x Youngsters(_ the Masterstroke filly Josh owns, Ocovango gelding, and the Schiaparelli - Nelson Partnership filly) , Just Edith, Grace ( another young filly ) and the latest edition being the filly from the Potters in Wales, also by Masterstroke, which is for Samantha. Not sure I could get more fillies in that sentence lol. The Potters also have a few very well bred Geldings available to buy all broken and now 4 years old. There will be a few shares left in the Northern Racing Club, as we have decided to retire Champ Royal after he has won 4 and placed 4 times from 21 runs for the Club. We intend to buy another at the Goffs January sale – 5% will be £120 per month with a £500.00 buy in. 10 % double etc – simple maths! Please let me know if anyone would like more details…. Next week we do hope to have runners! Sadly Nathan is subject to an 8 day suspension and so will miss this weeks rides – Conor is stepping in and we have the following:- Newcastle 15th January Big Day - Freddie Steady Go – first time over a hurdle Mr Ramoon – first time over a hurdle Knockeranna Rose – third run for his handicap mark ( may not get in ) Sunset Hill in a 3 mile Chase Red Dart – 2nd run in a Bumper. Haydock 17th January Pinot Rouge in the 3 mile hurdle Kilmore Rock 2.5 mile hurdle. Fingers crossed for the weather to ease. Best Susan PS I have a few spare shares in the following horses Race4fun - Theatre Light Northern Racing Club – about to buy a new horse at the Jan sales Otterburn Racing club – Just Edith Exercise in freezing weather Join our Facebook friends and get our daily tips here.
