Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter

Well this was a good week!

Firstly Royal Prospect ran a great race to be beaten a length into second place at Newcastle – new to us for Shaun Humphries( Shaun and Daryl make up Castle View ) with the retirement of Trainer Lawrence Mullaney.

Then the big day out at Hexham with a not good start by Buddy who decided he had never seen a hurdle in his life – just not like the ones at home! He goes off to various places this week to practice jumping away from home before he tries again. First ever 'First and Second' in the same race! Possible because I hate running two in the same race!

It was unavoidable ( unless I had chosen the mares race and then we may have had 2 winners! ) and as they set off with Atomic Angel in her fav position at the front – Champ Royal took the pip at the false start and started slowly and jumped badly over the first two – so then Sam changed the plan which had been to follow AA – of course myself and the new Northern Racing Club Members did not know that.

As he trailed around at the back I wondered where I could hide – faith restored as he started to pass them coming up the hill and won easily – beating AA who, as usual, gave her very best. Great to see jockey Sam Coltherd back on track – a great start for him with a 1st and a 2nd out of 3 races ( Buddy ! ). New Jockey to us, Ed Austin, had his first ride for the yard being second on Atomic Angel.

So a good welcome to the very new members of the NRclub – first run first win! Tweed Valley Racing Club also have had that feeling when Les's legacy won first time out for them last year! Then we had En Meme Temps in the last where he went very well just to be beaten in the chase by under 3 lengths with the third horse 39 lengths away!

Yesterday we were off to Redcar for the Straight Mile Final – of course it was meant to be soft ground but Redcar has its own climate and after waiting for this race the ground was good – not the soft Clear Angel relishes – so a place was the best we could hope for – once again we were not disappointed as he came through to be 4th – his best ever performance ridden by Ben Curtis.

In other news Blame Rose has had her wind op and I was interviewed about the new Racehorse Census as the great and the good try and find out where ex racehorses go – it can be found on the ROR website and we should be on TV next week.......
