Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter

Well it was a very mixed week - starting well with Fairly Fulling having his first run for us and being 4th - despite starting favourite and it was none of our money! 'Archie' had a reputation for not finishing his races when I bought him from my neighbour. He put that behind him and he will have one more run over 2miles before we step him up to 2.4 - he was lucky to survive his first hurdle!

Talking of hurdles, as padded hurdles replace Birch, the racecourses are selling their birch hurdles so we have bought a few and also have the new padded type so our schooling area is looking good. Padded V Birch - a fence steward at Hexham said on Friday a horse hit the bottom of the new hurdle and it just went flat - the birch ones would have caused that horse to fall - which is why they are changing - welfare of the horse ( and rider ).

Then we went to a racecourse gallop at Newcastle with Freddie, Crimson Road, Red Dart and Joker. They all performed very well although it was a shame that our Owner and gallop watcher Leighten, may have been recorded on the vid passing comment on Joshs weight ( he was carrying about 2 stone more than Nathan ) then I may have sent the vid to Josh - oppsy!

It was all a good giggle and the 4 horses are well worth looking forward to.

Hexham on Friday was not a delight - Theatre Light who we all think a lot of, stopped as though shot - I am sure she swallowed her tongue - then Les Legacy hated the ground and the rain! Wee Alki pulled us out of the doldrums with a good 4th only beaten 5 lengths with Nathan reporting his wind op has certainly worked! Next time...... The weather was so bad at Hexham I am surprised it went ahead and I could not blame Les Legacy for wanting the sun to shine!

Sunday at Kelso ( hence the late Newsletter ) we had the Wheelchair Challenge before racing where we were 2nd last year - with maybe a little cheating from the winning team! The night before we attended a dinner and bought our team - thanks for our Owners who chipped in for the £250.00 it cost to buy our team - in fact we ended up with 310! So are keeping the balance towards our charity fund at Christmas....

MS and the Injured Jockeys fund raised over 11k on the evening as they also had an auction where the best cabaret was Jack Walton ( our very own auctioneer ) and a younger version called 'Hutch' they were great! However back to the Wheel chair Challenge they changed the rules part way through - cancelled the final and awarded the MS team the prize!

Oh dear Josh was not amused, to be fair when people donate good money and the prize is £800.00 they should get it fair and correct for all.

Never mind - its for charity - Josh then won Best Turned out and Dancer did as well as we expected in a hot novice hurdle - he will be grand when he goes chasing in the mud! Kilmore not so good - it was a fast race and he made mistakes so more practice required. Phew so on to this week..
