Susan enjoyed a great week - find out why in her weekly newsletter: April 06, 2025 |
Hi
Well sometimes we don't have exciting weeks and sometimes we do! Where do I start.... Crimson Road made his debut for the yard at Doncaster and just needs to be more in his grade and on firmer ground – he did nothing wrong at all and was well behaved at the races. Next up was Kilmore Rock at Newcastle with a great front running ride from Nathan, he won by 2 ½ lengths for Ron, Mike, Andy and Sheila! A fun time was had by all with George and Margaret and Mike and Marj visiting for a few days on the best 4 days of the winter! Next we were off to Southwell with Clear Angel who has not run since June due to an injury. He travelled in his 'stable' - we take all partitions out of the lorry and he travels happily, from being a nightmare in his earlier days. He was 8/ 12 by only 4 ¼ L Dan Muscutt ( my favourite Flay joc ) was happy with CA as they went slowly and then sprinted – not his thing! He hit the line hard and he should be winning again soon! Leaving Southwell at 5.23 am we arrived back in Otterburn for a quick change around to leave for Newcastle at 10 am with Blame Rose and Freddie Steady Go 's debut.
Blame Rose gave a strange performance but she was in Season and her young jockey stopped when she felt the mare was tired – so she will go again – perhaps to Hexham. Next up was the long awaited Freddie – born here as was his mother Bahrikate – a daughter of the great Bahri. Freddie was very babyish in his stable and it may need a repaint! However he settled down and was very well behaved in the paddock. The favourite was pulled out leaving us fav or at least joint fav. There was to be no pace in the race but Nathans instruction was to educate him and have him among horses – it was a big ask as Freddie was keen to get on with the job! Nathan finished exhausted while Freddie was still full of himself and won by over 5 lengths! I was very nervous that he may not be as good as we all thought – he was that and more – finishing the race at 35miles per hour. A lot more to come when he learns to settle in his races, You must watch the vid of the Boys, Bekah and Steve – josh and Jamies special rendition of Swan Lake lol – never seen them so happy- I was pretty pleased myself! So we have a super special horse on the yard – in the very week the Racing Post decided to do a special article online and in the paper about us and what we are trying to achieve here with our small breeding unit. The Hexham Courant also had a huge pic of the Tweed Valley Racing Club for the winning of Les Legacy the week before. We are putting two mares in foal this year – Bahrikate and Atomic Angel – both visit Frontiersman ( Freddies sire ).
Staff – we have a new member of Sunday Staff – Holly Anderson whose Mum, Kirsty worked for us when we were a stud and now has a share in Joker – small world. I am expecting Amanda back to work – all being well in May So it's a massive thank you to the team here to have our two winners perfectly primed for this week – meanwhile...next week
Dates 8th April Carlisle – Wee Alki runs in the colours of Gowan Racing for the Naughty but nice partnership – only 7 runners Theatre Light runs for the ever patient Race4fun group in her debut for us – she is schooling very well.
11th Ayr maybe Pinot Rouge or wait until
12th Ayr – Pinot and Beyond the Verge – not ideal for Pinot as she need soft ground but she will hopefully still make a good account of herself! Beyond the Verge has improved ( according to Nathan ) out of sight after his winter break.
So this week – no negatives and a lot of positives – go Team Girsonfield and all of our connections! Target Races won 2024 13 2025 11 Catching up....
