Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter: The start of a new National Hunt season - what excitement awaits? Clear Angel ( Flat ) was 5th at Newcastle and showed us he is back, waiting to win, given the right conditions as he does not like the all weather so rain required. Hexham made a good job of watering with the ground being good to soft when everywhere else ( like Kelso ) is struggling to get racing on due to dry ground conditions. Sunset Hill made a good start over fences making two mistakes and being in a pretty hot novice. She was 4th and will improve for that run. Bought for 8K last August she has had 11 runs for us - starting with a bumper and going on to Novice hurdles. She has now won £44,344 from a buying price at last years May sale of 8k. Well done to Jason who spotted her in the first place - she is looking like a bargain buy with lots more to come. She was a pain to saddle in the saddling boxes, as Nathan had ridden in the race before - then a baby started crying and she was mesmerised and stood listening..... Blame Rose was in season and a madam - ran well from the front but just faded up the hill. Her jumping was her best feature and next time we have to plan for her not being in season! Our yearlings continue to thrive and, on inspection to see if Clyde was ready to geld, biting the trainer ensured the op will happen on Monday! Thats not a snake he is waving around in the last pic but a girth guard - how did it get in the paddock - who knows.
Amanda is back next week - we are seeing of she can come part time as she has been in a couple of times and gets tired quickly which is only to be expected after her dreadful accident. Her confidence is intact as she simply cannot remember the accident.
Gloria is back in work and flying along for the GRClub - when she had her R and R she was in the field and her fitness is coming back very quickly - cant wait to see her around Cartmel.
It was great to see young Ben Smith ( one of our Claimers ) win at Punchestown for his Dad Mike - marvellous result! They have changed the rules for Conditional jockeys and you have to win more races at 5lb before you drop to a 3lb claim - so Conor Rabbitt goes back to 5lb - good news for us... Just Oot was bought as a store by Josh and he is now looking for a small group to buy him to stay on the yard - his value may be more determined by how he goes at Kelso on Wednesday - presently he is rated 103 - any interested parties please speak up! Next week we have a first - looks like we have 3 horses in the same race at Kelso and 4 horses going to 3 different courses next Saturday! Yikes... Dates 7th Kelso - if its on due to ground - Pinot, Les Legacy and Kilmore Rock in the 2.6. Wee Alki is the 0- 100 3.2 hurdle and Just Oot in the Novice. 9th Market Rasen back up plan for Kilmore Rock 10th Notts Crimson Road Flat Hexham back up for Les Legacy and Late Night Drama goes to the Maiden Haydock Freddie 2nd run and first run for his new owners! Now I will get this right 23rd August National Racehorse week - Open Day 6th Sept Owners Open Day 6th Dec Owners/ Staff Christmas Dinner - I promise no speakers. Thanks for the support as ever.
