Hi

Susan Corbett's Newsletter

Good Morning from a sunny, if windy, Menorca –

the week started with the debut of the New Otterburn Racing Clubs' first runner Rogers Dream. She has a beautiful pedigree but not the biggest filly you have seen. However Conor Murtagh made a good job of an educational run – slow to start but then got the hang of it and was running on at the end.

She handled everything else very well ie Travelling, sadddling, leading up etc. So she may go again Saturday at Catterick depending how she works this week.

Next up was Infinite Honour, one of the horses we bought for Castleview ( Daryl and Shaun ) as a yearling. He was 2nd and still staying on so looks like he will stay further – that's 3rd and 2 x 2nds so far his season out of 3 runs. Dan Muscutt came up to ride him from Newmarket and he will also ride Clear Angel at Wetherby on Monday evening.

Apache Angel got a very low rating on the flat last season so we decided to try him over hurdles – he jumped well and came home with prize money- however 4/4 and Nathan reported he simply did not stay. So back to the Flat but if he shows nothing he may need a different job!

The team are busy riding the few horses that are not having a holiday yet and then cleaning and painting the yard as well as taking their holidays! We are losing Jenna as the commute from Selkirk via Hawick to see her horses and then to work was proving too much and she has been accepted on a course to be a Veterinary nurse.

Replacing her we have a young lady ( Isa ) from Wooler who is doing a course with the British Racing School. We are still looking for more staff as we will need at least 6 riders come August.

It's the time of the year where we assess the horses and see what we need and possibly don't need! The two horses bought at the sales recently are looking good. They have settled in well and will both have a run at the end of June to see what they are made of before going out in the field for a break. The Grey mare Sunset Hill has only had two runs in PTP while 'Dancer' has won one and been in the top 4 in 5/6 runs – a massive horse at 17.3hh.

Racing

Monday – Wetherby Clear Angel – a good chance but a bad draw!

Saturday – maybe Rogers Dream at Catterick

Sunday – new boy Kilmore Rock goes to Perth for the new partnership – Payne, Bell, Severs, Moffatt & Corbett in the 2.4 Novice hurdle.

Exciting times with all of the older horses doing well and the new/young horses starting off.

Now back to the Tapas beach bar!
