Newsletter - Susan Corbett's Newsletter September 01, 2024 |
Hi Susan Corbett's Newsletter So the weeks are getting more exciting with the jumps horses getting to fitness and starting to school this week. All were really good over their hurdles with Rocky and Dancer needing more practice over a fence! Nathan came in to school and Ed did some work on the gallops on Tuesday. Jimlis Island looks to have improved for his run at Perth and goes there again – this time over hurdles on the 9th Sept. Staff wise the two girls injured are back to work soon and new girl Bekah joins us tomorrow – meanwhile we have had a flow of part timers coming in to cover so the horses are coming to fitness very quickly. We have our Open Day for National Racehorse Week next Saturday 7th September at 10.30 – you are all welcome and need not book in! Parking will be in the big field on the right. Refreshments 'a la Steve'. Nathan will be there to talk about his life as a jockey and the team will be on the gallops. Demos from our Farrier and Vets – in fact the whole team that makes the place what it is will be in action! Daved McCreath from the Tweed Valley Racing Club will be selling raffle tickets for £5.00 each in aid of our charities – Prizes include a day out as an Owner with Les's Legacy, Tickets donated by Carlisle, Kelso, Musselburgh and Hexham racecourses – let me know if anyone would like tickets before the day! Foals are growing and we have just completed the registration for the Great British Bonus for the Nelsons 3 year old filly 'Thumper'. This means that she will be eligible for 20K bonuses in her races – she has to win them of course! The first two to get to the racecourse from our breeding plan will be ex Harrisons Promise by Telescope – 'Hope' and 'Freddie' ex Bahrikate by Frontiersman – all being well. Next racing will be the 9th at Perth with Jimlis Island followed by Infinite Honour 10th Catterick or 14th Mussel and Rogers Dream 15th at Musselburgh. The 18th at Kelso will see the debut for Beyond The Verge in a bumper as he starts his career for the Goodfellow Partnership and Wee Alky will have his debut over hurdles. Then we really kick off with the rest of the jumpers in October. We still have a few shares left in various horses:- Rogers Dream – 4th last time and goes 15th to Musselburgh – just till her lease ends in October – so a 2 month dabble in a filly that should be in the prizes. She has moved to the Naughty but Nice Syndicate. Beyond The Verge – still 20% left in him and he is by Telescope and working very well on the gallops – small partnership – he runs 18th at Kelso. Whispering Dancer – 10% left in this well related big horse – ready to run soon – just behind Kilmore Rock in one of his early Point to Points 'Joker' our ladies syndicate with this 4 year old Cloudings gelding – lease only. Please ask for details! Northern Racing Club Last night we held the first 'Annual Dinner' at the Bay Horse, West Woodburn for the Northern Racing Club where Champ Royal has been a star winning nearly 30K last season – it's a new club and we raffled off the prizes to the members with Ron ( what a star ) Payne donating back his Vase from Catterick – furious bidding - but Stuart won the day with a bid of £105.00 in the kitty for Cancer Research – we have already donated £1000 to the Zoes Place Childrens Hospice and £1000 to the injured Jockeys fund the rest ( around 1500 now ) we save till the year end for Cancer Research – this will be added to next week with Davids Raffle. Good luck to all for the season ahead! Susan email:girsonfield@outlook.com Tel: 7713651215 regards Chris |
