Hi

The Betting School's Goodwood Festival was a resounding success with plenty of winners resulting in a solid profit.

Here are the selections for Day 2 28th July

Goodwood Day 3

Goodwood 2.00pm

Another race Mark Johnston has won quite a few times and he is mob handed again. At the prices I like Abareeq, the choice of Joe Fanning. Has only has seven races so lots of scope for improvement and the step up in trip should suit. You’re Hired is interesting up in trip on handicap debut. He was beaten just over a length by Midterm who went on to win the Bet365 Classic Trial before finishing 5th in the Dante.

Abareeq @22/1 e/w (1/4 odds, 4 places) - unplaced

You’re Hired @9/1 e/w (1/4 odds, 4 places) Won 9/1

Goodwood 2.35pm

I can’t have Blue Point at odds-on no matter how well he won his first two races. He may make a fool of me and win this doing handstands but Mehmas has the form in the book and despite a 3lb penalty it will take a good one to beat him.

Mehmas @9/2 Won 7/2

Goodwood 3.10pm

One from the Insiders Report. The trends qualifier is Big Orange. In the report I mentioned looking out for Aiden O’Brien’s runners and he saddles Sword Fighter. Both make plenty of appeal.

Sword Fighter @13/2 unplaced

Big Orange @4/1 Won 11/4

Goodwood 3.45pm

Mill Springs has won a Listed race over this distance and showed she had stamina a plenty when getting within two lengths of Jennies Jewel at Royal Ascot over 2 ½ miles. I am hoping she tries to make the running and turn this into a real stamina test.

Mill Springs @9/2 unplaced

Goodwood 4.55pm

Wide open and Tap Tap Boom and Bear Valley are token selections. The latter is one of a few from the Johnston stable and is well drawn to attack having made all at Epsom last time. Fellow Epsom scorer Tap Tap Boom has a similar profile.

Tap Tap Boom @12/1 e/w (1/4 odds, 4 places) unplaced

Bear Valley @9/1 Won 8/1

Goodwood 5.30pm

We finish off with a horse I have backed a few times only to be let down. Lathom won the Weatherby’s Super Sprint last year but did not really kick on. He switched from Richard Fahey to David O’Meara and his new trainer seems to getting a better tune out of him. I think he will strike soon and hopefully it will be in this.

Lathom @9/1 e/w unplaced
